FIRST CONSULTATION

We are happy to see new patients from 12 weeks gestation. An ultrasound will be performed to confirm viability and dating of the pregnancy.

LACTATION SUPPORT

Breastfeeding is a very natural Process but it can be very challenging. Experienced support is available at St Mary’s Ward.

POST NATAL AFTERCARE

A postnatal consultation is scheduled for 6 weeks following the birth of your baby. This provides an opportunity to discuss your recovery, your health, the birthing experience and your next pregnancy. Contraception will be addressed .

LABOUR AND DELIVERY MANAGEMENT

As obstetricians, we are trained to act in the best interests of both mother and baby to achieve healthy outcomes. Dr Alkiaat has the level of skills you expect and is experienced in both straightforward and complicated deliveries. Additionally, as far as possible, Dr Alkiaat will accommodate your wishes for labour so that, as well as joy at the outcome, you may feel satisfaction with the steps that led you there.

ULTRASOUND

If you elect to have a “Nuchal Translucency / First Trimester” Ultrasound performed between 11 – 13 weeks gestation to assess for Chromosomal defects, you will be referred outside the practice to a dedicated obstetric ultrasound centre. You will also be referred to the same ultrasound centre for your routine “Fetal Anomaly” ultrasound performed between 18 -20 weeks. Ultrasound examination for Fetal Growth & Wellbeing will be performed by Dr Alkiaat at each consultation.

ANTENATAL CARE

Antenatal visits are an important part of your pregnancy management and have been shown to have beneficial effect on pregnancy outcomes. The normal visits are 12 weeks, 16 weeks,  20, 24, 28, 30 weeks and then fortnightly until 36 weeks and then weekly until delivery.
